Darling Billy - A True Gentlebun
On Monday 28th May 2007 at just after 2pm our beloved and most gorgeous boy passed to the Rainbow Bridge He had not been ill, he was just old and his body didn't want to go on any longer We would have given him part of our lives and part of our bodies just to keep him here with us.
Darling Billy, we remember so vividly the day we first saw you and you buddy Bobby - it was a soaking wet day and we had nipped to the local rescue with some veggies for the buns there - as we arrived we saw Pat, the volunteer, trying to shield you from the rain and brush your coat at the same time - we asked about you and she told us about you and Bobby - you where eight and a half years old then and had suffered terribly for the last year that she had known of. We didn't even look at you and Bobby properly, we just told Pat to give us an hour while we set something up for you - we rushed back home and set up a large hutch in the bunny-house and went back and got you both.
Bobby was very poorly although very happy as well, and for over two and a half years you nursed him - you had only been here a few weeks and by then had moved into the house into a two storey condo - and Wiggles the nethie decided that she liked you both and joined you - you just accepted her and got on with it, not that you and Bobby had a choice with Wiggles.
When she became ill you nursed her with Bobby - and then when we lost her along came Lily and she became your partner with Bobby. Lily only lasted a couple of weeks due to heart problems but again, you nursed her. Then came Nici in with you and Bobby after he had lost his beloved Sparkles - you took him under your wing and loved him and nursed him when he became very ill with an abscess
When Bobby and Nici left for the Bridge you where on your own and you didn't like it so you joined Maple downstairs in the living room as she had just lost Mr Jingles - even though Maple was not well you looked after her, groomed her and made sure that she was comfortable You where with Maple for a few months before she went to the Bridge and you went to the living room door and sat by it - I opened the door and you trotted upstairs and just settled yourself in with Muffin, Oliver, Bandit and Barley-Bun What a lovely sight to see you all together. You nursed Muffin when she had her stroke, you looked after Bandit as he had head tilt, you watched that Oliver didn't get stuck anywhere as he was a tripod bun and you made sure that Barley-Bun got the smallest pieces of food as he had no front teeth.
When Oliver, Barley-Bun and Bandit left for the Bridge you still had Muffin and you really looked after her well. Then Timmy-Tickles lost his beloved April so you took him under your wing. When Muffin left us for the Bridge you had your Timmy and you knew that he had problems and you looked after him so well.
But all this time you where getting older and arthritis had started to plague you. That was under control and except for a bad day with it now and again you carried on being the strong old soldier that you where
On Sunday you hadn't eaten as well and looked very tired but you still watched over Timmy - we gave you your metacam that evening and you started on your supper but not as readily as you usually did You settled yourself down with Timmy draped over your shoulders as usual and seemed quiet but fine.
At 4am I awoke as Timmy was thumping and you had lost the use of your back legs - I knew the end was coming and it broke my heart I nursed you when you let me and gave you water and you snuggled into me for a while.
I got Daddy up and we watched you and took it in turns to nurse you - always letting Timmy see you as well. We knew that you where leaving us and that you where not suffering or ill - we knew it was just old age as we had seen it so many times before
There was nothing we could do except hold you and tell you how much we love you and how proud we where to have been chosen by you to be your mummy and daddy
At just after 2pm you fell asleep so very peacefully in your Daddy's arms - and we fell apart
But that night it thundered for the first time in a long time and we believe it was you telling us off for being so sad - you where telling us that we should celebrate your life and we knew that we should as you deserve that so much
You had been an ever-present at Ebony-Eyes - you had been here for four and a half years and had passed the age of 13 - and you where never really ill and you where certainly never sad here.
We always called you our special nursing bunny - and life will never be the same without you. We also called you our Koala-Bun as you only had the one ear and from one side you looked like a bun but the other side you looked like a Koala
We will miss you always darling boy - but we know that you are in a wonderful place now - you have the sun shining on you all the time, you can run about properly without any pain in your limbs, you can eat as much as you want and the best thing of all, you will be with all your loved ones No-bun deserves more than that - even though we are heartbroken.
Thank you darling boy for being there for us, for being there for all the poorly buns you looked after and for teaching us so very much
We love you with all our hearts and we promise to look after Timmy-Tickles for you
To Billy, our wonderful Gentlebun - our baby boy and the bravest boy we have ever had the honour of sharing our lives - we love you and we will never, ever forget you.
All our love always
Your Mummy, Daddy, Timmy-Tickles and the rest of the Hairy Mob - xxxxxx
